It's not that I think stupidity should be punishable by death. I just think we should take the warning labels off of everything and let the problem take care of itself.
About me: 38 (ish), gay, libertarian. Somewhere. Out there... What the heck is The Daily Slap? E-Mail Me Please note: I love receiving e-mails from anyone, as long as you're not a snotty prick. If you're a snotty prick, feel free to send an e-mail, but plan on being mocked on my site. Thanks! --Rob
I've noticed lately that the site is really starting to drag sometimes. Having watched my server logs, the load is getting a bit higher than my one little machine can handle.
Which is fantastic!! That means you guys are visiting so much that it's bringing the server to its knees. Nice! I really do appreciate all of the visits and the e-mails and the comments.
But it also means that I gotta do something. So, first and foremost, I'll be removing some of the software running here that's especially intensive. That should help a bit.
But in the next couple of months, I'll be adding an additional server to share the load.
So I'm hoping that moving the piggish software off will make things a bit better in the interim, but look for a nice speed improvement some time soon! And again, thanks for visiting so much that I have to upgrade!
It's been an interesting month. We had a number of retro Slaps, including Paul Newman and Montgomery Clift that were smoking hot in their day - and really led the way for today's celebrity hotties. And we had a nice mix of other guys, including Alejo Sauras, Aaron Eckhart and the stunning ass of Mario Lopez to choose from. There's really no obvious standout for my vote - I'm kinda leaning to Tim Henman as a sentimental favorite, but I don't think I'll actually end up voting for him. Let the voting begin!!
Update: A couple of commenters have said that they didn't find it appropriate to have "The Victims of 9/11" included in the Slap voting, and I have to say I agree. The only reason they were there was because of the automated script I used to generate this post. The only thing I typed was at the top. It was included automatically, and I didn't take it out. But it's out now, because I do agree that it's best not to include such things in a vote like this.
I must agree with Ric. Though understandable and respectable that you would like to keep the memory of that day alive, I don't feel that this is the right way to do it. Maybe at the bottom of all the nominees you could put a homage to the victims of 9/11 and honour them in such a way.
Back during "Fur Week", Jason wrote to suggest today's Slap. I didn't get him in then, but I've been feeling a need for someone a little less twinky of late. I wouldn't go so far as to call Bill Paxton "furry", but he's definitely not a twink.
Bill's latest adventure, of course, is Big Love, the show about a polygamist and his three wives - you can catch it on HBO. He's been in gobs of other things - that I won't go into here - but suffice it to say that he's easy to find onscreen if you're looking. If you like Bill, I'd definitely recommend catching Big Love - they seem to show a fair amount of nudity. Of Bill and of other folks, including one hot little 20-year old that may be the subject of an upcoming Slap...
great pics. but, with all the talk of him being a semi nudist and swimming the ocean nude, why can't we ever seem to find a pic of him with his shirt off?

Eric Mabius
I thought it was really important to share former Slap Eric Mabius with everyone:
He's starring in the new show on ABC called Ugly Betty and looking really good doing it. And frankly, I think he looks kinda Bamber-ish.
Update: I ran across some caps of his shirtless scene from last night's Ugly Betty. Check 'em out!
And to chime in with some of the commenters, I thought the show was "cute" - that's the word I used with Juice last night. I can't compare it to The Devil Wears Prada, or to anything from South America, but it has a nice feel to it if you ask me. I'm going to give it a few more episodes and see how it evolves.
Yeah, he's cute, but Ugly Betty was / is the stupidest show I've ever seen. Maybe I missed something, but OMG!!! How dumb. . . and they took "Invasion" off the air.

Eric is adorable.. I wouldnt throw him out of bed. And I watched Ugly Betty and loved it. One of the few shows on now that isnt all sturm and drang. Kidnapped, The Nine, Vanished, all violent shows... have a little fun sometimes.

2011-05-09 21:51
Although Eric is cute, I noticed he had lost a lot of his muscle tone last night. He looked much better in last season's private eye show "Eyes". Not to mention "Resident Evil" and "The Crow: Salvation". Even though he always looks good, I think he looks better a little pumped.

2011-05-09 21:51
Ugly Betty is pretty darned good, I think: it's different in a lot of ways because it follows the telenovela from Columbia that it's based on and retains some standard Columbian TV things that Americans won't necessarily get right away (e.g. the cartoonish antagonist, and the tendency for humor to go toward camp/over-the-top-ness). In those respects, it's unusual for American TV (apart from Univision, etc.). Anyway, I liked it now.
Now, as for Eric Mabius. He looks good. (I thought he looked extra hot in "Eyes" last year, which was one of the best shows on ABC in a while and how stupid they cancelled it.)
Bamberish? Well, he needs even bigger pecs and some more fur on them to even begin to rival Jamie...and then of course there's Jamie's eyes. But even so: I can see it, yeah, I can see it.

Great minds; great minds (with regard to the Slap today because I was just thinking about the need to re-Slap Eric). Amazingly adorable.
As for "Ugly Betty," I thought it was the cutest show ever. I hope they keep up reveling in the campiness of it all. Coming from someone who watched both "Betty La Fea" and "La Fea Mas Bella" (the telenovelas the ABC show is based on), I think they did a great job last night.
Thom wrote to suggest today's Slap, Timothy Adams. His e-mail arrived literally at the perfect time - I was on hold with tech support (AUGH!) and when I saw his e-mail, and the nice supply of pics at the URL he sent, I knew I had the perfect Slap for today - and the perfect time to post it.
Timothy has been in various things over the years - none of them, surprisingly, Baywatch. He was in something called Ocean Ave - gee, you think that was a vehicle for showing skin?? He was also on The Guiding Light and lately he's been on Rescue Me.
Just a small correction, Tim Adams was never on Baywatch...he played a lifeguard on a fairly short lived NBC Soap called Sunset Beach... I'm not into soaps, but THAT one I watched for all the hot men hanging out on the beach! Oh yeah, THANKS SO MUCH for all the great work on this site!

It seems a bit early for swimwear season, but DNA is Australian, so it works. And hell, a magazine featuring swimwear ALWAYS works. So if you haven't seen Towleroad's preview of the DNA swimwear feature, go. Now.
The cover model is not even Australian. He is an American kid. I met him last summer he was a waiter at a gay charity event out in the Hamptons and, let me say, he is even HOTTER in person. His name is Tyler Moyer. WOW!!!

Today's Slap has been on my agenda for quite some time. Scott Lunsford was the straight boy who played gay in Eating Out to try to get the gay guy's fag hag to go out with him. Former Slap Ryan Carnes, one of my long-time favorites, played the gay guy. Eating out also featured Jim Verraros as the lovelorn Kyle - who had a terrible crush on Ryan's character, but could never seem to get anything to happen. Jim, you may know, is the first American Idol contestant to come out publicly.
Scott hasn't been in much else, but there's a sequel to Eating Out, called Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds, this time starring Jim Verraros. I can't tell if it's been released yet or not.
I totally agree Ryan Carnes totally overshadowed him in looks and acting skills. He was a real bad actor as I remember.

I really enjoyed the movie, Scott Lunsford played most of it like a guy that didn't know how to deal with what was happening, I hope he's not as dull in real life, but the movie wouldn't have been as great if he had acted? better.

He's okay... but... with Ryan there, he's overshadowed.
David wrote a while back to suggest today's Slap, model Kevin Peake. You may remember Kevin from Bravo's Manhunt. He wasn't my favorite - that was Matt or Rob. In fact, Kevin kinda seemed like an arrogant jerk - he was the "professional spy" among the guys, and he was quite smug about it, I thought.
Regardless, he's HOT! And frankly I can't believe I haven't put him in before. Regardless, here he is. And it looks like Rob hasn't been Slapped since 2004, so I'll be getting him in soon too...
He was an arrogant mo-fo on Manhunt, which I found a complete turn-off. But, he sure is beautiful.

So model Ian Lawless is today's Slap - Ian certainly looks familiar - it seems like I've seen him in every GQ or Details I've ever read. Mostly, I guess, modeling for Lacoste.

My favorite slap ever! WOW.. put in my vote now for slap of the month.. year.. century... again, WOW!
Kip (you remember Kip - he's the one who suggested long ago that I Slap Randy Johnson - he may not ever live that down) is responsible for today's Slap. Long ago he suggested that I Slap the Naked Chef (not that kind of naked, unfortunately) Jamie Oliver, but I could never find any good skin pics. Recently, however, I was reading that the Naked Chef has fallen out of favor with Kip; taking Jamie's place on Kip's list is musician RyanCabrera.
Anyway, so when I found a few pics of Ryan, I knew he was a prime candidate for a good hard Slap! Ryan, among other things, is in the upcoming release My Sexiest Year; unfortunately it doesn't look like the sexiest refers to him.
Pretty darn cute, and a younger, better looking version of Jamie Oliver at that.

Sean wrote some time back to suggest today's Slap, Daniel Sunjata. Daniel was named one of People's Most Beautiful People in 2003. Makes sense to me.
If you want to see Daniel on the screen, your best bet seems to be Rescue Me - he plays Franco Rivera who is, I assume, a firefighter in NYC. I say "I assume" because I've never seen the show - any recommendations out there? If you want to see him on the big screen, you might still be able to catch The Devil Wears Prada at your town's down-line theater.
For a while you could see all of Daniel in the Broadway version of Take Me Out, but I gather that he's not playing in that any more. So just in case someone was sneaky and took a camera into the play, send along a pic...
Update: Pierre was kind enough to send along a pic of Daniel naked - taken on stage in Take Me Out. He couldn't remember where he found it, so unfortunately, I can't give credit where it's due.
I've had my on Sunjata since he appeared as a sailor on Sex in the City, if not earlier. I also had the joy of seeing him in NY when he did Take Me Out. Yum.

"Rescue Me" is a great show - very dark, gritty, well-written and beautifully acted; plus two characters, Mike (Probie)and his male roommate, have just been revealed having sex with each other, although vehemently denying, to themselves, that they are gay. Well worth watching.

Today's Slap is the twink-tastic Justin Chatwin. You may remember Justin from Tom Cruise's icky War of the Worlds. He's been in lots of different things, including a few appearances on Smallville.
It looks like Justin has a couple of upcoming projects - and he's even wearing the producer's hat for one of them. Keep your eyes peeled for The Pornographer's Poem (doesn't that sound promising??) and The Invisible.

I wanna like him. I really do. But I just saw "The Chumscrubber" last Sunday, and I still haven't gotten over how much of an arsehole his character was. I hold out hope that someday my attitude toward him will change.
Who am I kidding? Of course it'll change. Already has. Cute cute.
Today's Slap is courtesy of Steve - he was even kind enough to send along some pics of this guy. Aaron Eckhart can currently be seen in The Black Dahlia; he was also in Possession with Gwyneth Paltrow, and I remember hearing about him most in The Core. But that was just advertising - the movie looked WAY too bad to bother wasting 2 hours of my life.
Aaron is one of those really hot guys to me - maybe just a skootch too much chest hair, but a great body. And a great face that has a wide range of looks. And he's a pretty good actor - I may have to check him out in The Black Dahlia - has anyone seen it? Good? Bad?
Before you go see Black Dahlia, read Josh and Josh's post today.

I don't think he has a "skooch" too much chest hair. He's just one of those guys that falls into the middle category. He really doesn't have enough to qualify as "furry" and yet too much to be "smooth". Clothed he gives the illusion of a full chest of hair and then he takes off his shirt and disappointment. Men who fall in this category, much like the guys who have all of 9 hairs on their chests, should either never go shirtless and keep us guessing or get rid of it completely.

I saw it and thought that it was LA Confidential (adapted). You don't know what's going on even after the story is over. Actually you do but its too confounded.
You want to think there is a homocentric but it never crystalized as such except for a fight-club scene which was quick and disappointing.
His caracter is very poorly illustrated like an elphant in the room which is out of focus. Overall, I would say, wait for the DVD! There is one great character who without her the movie would be just nothing! The mother of Hillary Swank's character.

Today's random hotties
We have several random hotties today - the guys from this season's Survivor. You know, the one where the tribes are racially segregated? I haven't watched Survivor since the first season - that was interesting enough, but subsequent seasons just haven't piqued my interest. This season looks to be no different, despite the presence of the hottie in the blue shorts. He looks great, but frankly he's no Jeff Wilson.
So is anyone watching this season? Should we check it out?
I think this season of survivor seems to be different from the others in the past. Other than the racially divided tribes it seems to me that the cast this season overall doesn't really fit the usual pack of people they throw on survivor. Of course you have the good looking jocks and the aspiring models who come on the show under the guise of another profession just to get exposure. Overall none of them seem to fit the what I call "the survivor look" I give it a few more episodes before I come to a conclusion. You can't lie though, watching the different ethinic groups vote out each other every week will be interesting. One thing is for certain, until there is a merger or some twist none of them can say they were voted out because of thier ethnicity! (yes there have been people in the past that have whined that they were targeted because of ethnicity.)

J.P. is also a pro volleyball player...not a sure thing he is gay just because of where he works: I've met many straight guys working at gay bars because they know a hot body and a little flirting gets them BIG tips while they're waiting to be "discovered".
Today's retro-Slap is from Dave; he wrote to suggest 70s hunk Ryan O'Neal. I say "70s hunk" because Ryan just didn't seem to age as well as some of the other hunks from that era, specifically, Harrison Ford. I guess, strictly speaking, Ryan may not be a "retro" Slap, but he seems to have been off the radar for so long as to qualify. He appears still to be working, but I don't even recognize the movies he's been in lately.
In looking over his career, I've seen Ryan exactly twice on screen. Once in Love Story (duh!), where he looked really good, and once again, I suppose, in Desperate Housewives. I say "I suppose", because I know I've seen every episode, but I don't remember him; I'm not sure what's up with that.
If you want more prime-aged beef, you'd be better served with Kurt Russell; especially in his Soldier/Snake Pliskin-period.

"What's Up Doc?" was just on cable the other day...oy was he cute! (and Madeline Kahn was amazing!!!)
Jim - you know Jim, the one who loves to send along Brazilian models - sent along a Brazilian model. Amazing, no? Anyway, today's victim is Jose Albucacys. Apparently, he was (still is? I doubt it.) a firefighter in Brazil. I've never needed to be rescued by a firefighter, but I'd be willing to try it for him...
I should also point out that if you like Brazilians, head on over to QueerBeacon. Augusto has quiteacollection. In addition to being Brazilian himself - although I haven't seen him post any naked pictures of himself.
And, no, you don't need to remind me that I haven't either...

This guy is fuckin hottest when he isn't shaved! Why would you take off such nice hair? Bet he has a tight ass that is hairy too.
Sam wrote recently to suggest today's Slap - Dean Sheremet, probably better known as Mr. LeeAnn Rimes.
Not surprisingly, Dean had a brief appearance on one of my favorite shows - you're heard it before - MTV'sUndressed. Again, if you've never seen Undressed, and you have even a passing fancy for twinks, I highly recommend checking it out. The only real drawback is that no character ever seems to last for more than about 3 or 4 episodes.
Dean was also in Not Another Teen Movie as the important character "Cheerleader in Front of School".
I think Dean's best role is clearly as LeAnn's husband.
ha! i haven't thought of dean in years! i went to school with him; i definately thought he exhibited many gay tendencies throughout high school: always quite pretty, and a fabulous dancer. rumor had it that he engaged in much gay experimentation with certain friends (sadly, never me). circle jerks, quid pro quo hand jobs, possibly more. never confirmed though. i would be more than willing to refresh his memory now.

It's the eyebrows. No straight boy has eyebrows like that.
And speaking of hot actors showing their hot asses on Nip/Tuck, I thought I'd do a Slapdate on ThadLuckinbill who also was kind enough to show his gorgeous ass. I really don't know why I don't watch this show - it really seems worth it.
Following a conversation with Mr. X today, I realized that I'd never Slapped Mario Lopez. And considering that he's in an upcoming (or has it already aired?) episode of Nip/Tuck where we get to see his spectacular ass in the shower, I thought it was time...
I most remember Mario from his run on Saved by the Bell, which, I'm embarassed to admit I watched on occasion. But he and Mark-Paul Gosselaar looked so good. And he was also on The Other Half with Dick Clark for a while. Wasn't he?? IMDB doesn't show him in the credits, but I'd swear he was on it. Anyway...
Mario Lopez is the Dick Clark of hunks. This guy doesn't age. He's still as cute as ever, if not better! The ad for Dancing with the Stars is as hot as any with him shirtless (or pantless) -- okay, maybe, maybe not! A great slap. Wish I'd been in the shower scene with him. Le sigh.

this guy has an amazing body, i mean there's a big difference between his body and that other guy in the shower scene. He did a superb job playing greg louganis, He made me believe he was greg, its like i actually forgot i was watching mario. the movie was sad though all the stuff greg went through, it really made me sad, the guy was so good looking, talented not sure why he had to go through all that crap with his manager and other guys. OH well back Mario, your Adonis !!!
Back to the "retro" Slaps - at least for a day! Today we pay a call on Tab Hunter, another on Stuart's list of suggestions. I'm starting to detect a theme in the guys that Stuart requested... Hmmm...
Anyway, Tab is another guy that I just don't remember - I don't know that I've ever seen one of his movies, although he had quite a few TV guest appearances that I may or may not have seen, including on The Six Million Dollar Man, Benson and
Update: Going through some of my e-mail today, I noticed that Joey had also asked for Tab Hunter. I really need to go through my e-mail more promptly, I guess. Joey also had some other lovely suggestions that I'llb e posting soon...
Yes, Roddy was also gay. And Elizabeth Taylor's dear friend.

I had a huge crush on Tab in my pre-teens and early teens. I would go with my cousin (she is 6 years older than me) whenever she would go to see one of his movies. If I'd only known then that he was gay! At 75, he is still a handsome man.

There'a also Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, who lived together openly for years...even had the major magazines visit and photograph them at their various homes...and they were "just friends". If you were big-enough of a "star", you usually got the beneifit of the doubt as long as you weren't caught with a dead-girl, or a live-boy, in your bed. The studios and the Press invented girlfriends for you...and **Cough** still do.

I've always had a crush on Tab Hunter. :-) We should all age so well! A friend met him a few months ago, and said he was very personable.
Today, on the 5th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, I'm again honoring those who lost their lives. Of particular note is the 2,996 project, a project to remember everyone who died 5 years ago today (h/t GayPatriot).
There's also a great tribute to the heroes of that day. I wish I could say I created it, but I didn't. And again, I hope the creator doesn't mind if I post it - it is incredible.
Honestly, as a New Yorker, I don't need any reminders, tributes, or quotes from Samuel Adams or Thomas Paine to remind me of what happened. It's still quite fresh.

9/11, and other terrorists attacks, are used. They are used for politics, used for ratings, used for political attacks, used for anti-war rants and pro-war rants. I think now five years has gone it's time to take a step back, to move on to quieter more private mourning.
Today's Slap - suggested, surprisingly, only by Thom - is one of the best actors working today, Edward Norton. A lot of the pictures from after the jump are from the utterly disturbing and creepy American History X, where Edward played a Neo-Nazi skinhead who manages to redeem himself, at least partially, after some very disturbing incidents.
Edward was also excellent with Brad Pitt in Fight Club, itself a moderately disturbing pic.
His first movie, with Richard Gere was Primal Fear, which - I'm sensing a pattern here - was creepy and disturbing.
Excuuuuuuuuse me!??? Ed Norton. Great actor? Yes. Uuuuuuuuugly? No. Butt ugly.

Random hottie - Thomas Roberts
I've gotten several requests over the years for a Slap of CNN anchor Thomas Roberts, but I've never been able to find any good pics. But surfing Dreamcaps today, I came across a couple of good ones. Not really enough for a Slap, but I thought I should post them anyway...

P.S. If you know where I can find more pics, let me know and I'll give him a full Slap.
Wow! I never though I'd ever see a shirtless pic of Thomas except in my dreams. Thank you!!!!!
And now what about Jeffrey Kofman of ABC News? (OPENLY gay) He had a short-sleeved shirt on last year during a hurricane and he was RIPPED. You should do an entire "slap" of hot men of news (Jim Sciutto, Chris Cuomo, David Muir, Richard Engel, Jason Carroll, Miguel Marquez, etc., etc.!!!).

Thomas Roberts deserves to have the top News Anchor job on CNN, week-end breaking news.
How about giving him his own show to develope new ideas.
Going back to the retro Slaps, I offer one of my favorites - and one suggested by both RIC and Matt - Montgomery Clift. The only film of Monty's that I've seen is From Here to Eternity, but he looked really cute in that. And in 1995 Empire magazine put him at #29 on its list of the 100 sexiest film stars in history.
For a while, he and Marlon Brando were considered rivals for leading man status, but Monty apparently suffered from serious mental health problems that eventually ended his career.
Yes, I've always loved this man. Great eyes that go right through you, and lots and lots of fur. It is very well documented that he was at least bi, but probably gay.
Thanks, great slap.

I thinks it's fair to point out that the "self-destructive" behavior became more pronounced after the aweful car-crash he had in the mid-50's that nearly destroyed his face. They rebuilt much of it but he was never the matinee-idol he was before the accident; they didn't have the skills and techniques of today to properly repair his nose or profile. He still had his voice and skills, but his appearance changed the types of roles he was considered for.
Many said he spent the next 10-years dying...or killing himself.

G_d he was beautiful!
Can you do Guy Madison next? Lousy actor, but amazingly pretty to look at!
This guy is a re-Slap, but it's been since 2004, so he couldn't compete in a Slap of the Month contest, so I wanted to get him in. Will Young is the gay winner of the first Pop Idol, the U.K. show that led to American Idol.
One of the reasons that he came to mind was this recent story:
In an interview he said: “There are still things that I can’t do, being a gay man. You have to think carefully about things — about, for instance, prancing around with my top off in jeans.”
I guess I just don't see the problem with him prancing around with his top off in jeans.
Today's Slap was inspired by a recent episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. (Yes - to answer the question posed by any of you who don't know already - I'm a geek.) Dan Gauthier played Ensign Lavelle in the episode "Lower Decks". And he looked really good doing it; and amazingly, I was able to find some pretty damn hot shirtless shots.
And I figured Dan was a nice change from the "retro" Slaps for a day.
My God...he's 43 years-old. He looks like he's 26......

Anyway, August. As many of you noticed, there was a very well organized campaign to vote for Michael Fenton Panaro. But given his total number of votes, Channing Tatum would have been first in any other month, so he gets included too. And 3rd place Alex Barahona is just too hot not to include, so he's on board too.
Congratulations to all three! Your prizes are in the mail.

OK, look, I get that a good many of your Bent fans are guys into the younger, hairless, set. Not my thing, but whatever, you've had some classic slaps. This, on the other hand, doesn't even come close. Not terribly good looking, no build to speak of, and apparently his claim to fame is a media whore on myspace. MFP is not horrid-looking, so don't get me wrong, but he is by no means attractive or eye-catching. Continuing with our "retro" Slap theme, today's Slap seems to be one of the more popular retro's requested. Robert Conrad (or Konrad Robert Falkowski) is probably best known for playing Jim West in The Wild Wild West and for playing Greg Boyington in Black Sheep Squadron.
I gotta admit, when I first saw him requested, I only half recognized his name. And as I perused his list of movies, I can't recall having seen a single one. And I never watched WWW or BSS or any of his series either. So, honestly, I'm not sure I've ever seen this guy on screen. Is he a good actor? He's certainly hot - and as Stuart said, he's a "man our moms found sexy in their day". I'd have to say he's that in spades.
I had such a huge crush on Robert Conrad as a kid.. thansk for the reminder. And this slap-within-a-slap is a good idea.. especially when the slap # 2 looks like that!

Robert Conrad playing James T. West on "The Wild Wild West" was the hottest thing on television in the late Sixties. He always wore skin tight stretch pants and at least once an episode would be captured and strung up by his wrists, shirtless, sweating, glistening and straining to escape. Catch an old episode on cable and you too will see why this teenage boy never missed an episode.

I like the retro slaps for a couple of reasons. These guys got their bodies naturally - long before there was a gym on every corner with thousands of machines to work out every muscle in your body. They used a little known exercise technique called "hard work." They got their looks naturally too. Cosmetic surgery was rare and virtually unheard of in men.
It's also nice to see how well they age. I don't see todays plastic, machine made, drug enhanced men aging very well. Brad and Colin are good examples.

I agree with Jim. These guys didn't interest me when I was younger (although my classmates did!) and they still bore me today. They were somehow unreal, like one of my straight friends used to say about the women in "Playboy." Maybe fewer slaps but better would be an idea. I, for one, could do without the oldies and without the grainy photos from movies and TV.

As the one who suggested the "Retro-Slap" idea and a reader who is fast approaching 40, let me just say that the idea came from a standpoint of every generation has their definition of HOT. I don't understand the attraction to the twink skate punks that seem to dominate ads aimed at the 16-25 crowd just as I don't get how Elvis, Mick Jagger, or David Bowie were sex gods in their time. Hell, even (gag) Don Knotts was considered sexy at one time. (I read that somewhere) Retro slaps allow us to pay homage to the beefcake heroes of the past that brought male sexuality to the forefront and made it ok for men to be objectified as much as women. The quiet slow burn of a Paul Newman or Gary Cooper reflects the current heat of Josh Lucas or Cole Hauser. We see the mirror of ourselves and our development as gay men by looking to the past and seeing where we came from. It may not always be pretty, but without it we wouldn't be where we are today. (Sorry if that got a little soap-boxy and preacher-y, but I needed to throw in my 2 cents). Oh and if you watch the first season DVD of Wild Wild West (I kept a count), Jim West finds a reason to remove his shirt or expose his athletic chest a full 50% of the time! That's 14 out of 28 episodes.

I loved him in "Hawaiian Eye" and was really turned on by "Wild Wild West". He is originally from Chicago. In the late 70's or early 80's he filmed a series set here where he was a private eye who was an ex-boxer. Unfortunately he mostly kept his clothes on in that. But he went to the gym I did then and was not shy about walking around naked and talking to everyone. He had nice hairy balls and a dick that was cut so tight it stood almost straight out all the time. A lovely hairy butt also. I have an autographed picture tucked away somewhere. He is pretty short though.

Most any racing driver would be great. Carl Edwards has a bod and is known to show it off. I would love to see a shirtless Kahne, McMurray or any of the so-called "young guns." Am I beeing greedy? LOL! Will
Steve was one of those guys that was "Slap-worthy" because of his absolutely infectious charm. I didn't watch his specials often, but they were always so entertaining...
Stuart wrote a while back to suggest a mini-theme of "retro Slaps". I have to say, that's an excellent idea. So today we're starting with one of my all time favorite "retros", Paul Newman. Hell, he's so retro he's got a two-digit ID on IMDB!!!
I remember being on vacation in France one time - with my parents - and we stumbled across an old movie pictures book - and there was Paul Newman looking absolutely fabulous. Well, I wanted to gush to my mom, but - well... You know.
So anyway, here's 10-time Oscar nominee - and one-time winner - Paul Newman. YUM!
Future Slaps will include some of Stuart's suggestions, like Fabian, Tab Hunter, Warren Beatty, James Brolin - and of course another of my favorites, Montgomery Clift (surprise!).
Great idea, Stuart! And, yes, Paul Newman is definitely a good way to start. Another few to consider that have always been favs of mine: Cary Grant and Laurence Olivier (especially from Wuthering Heights!)

Apologies...
I've gotta apologize for my lackluster performance around here for the past couple of weeks. I've been absolutely slammed with a new project, and I just feel like I haven't been getting it all together on here.
And I took the day off from the project today - and took what felt like a 250 mile bike ride. So right now I'm way too exhausted to get a Slap together for the day. But I'll be back tomorrow - and hopefully my schedule will loosen up a bit and I can get back on a roll.
And the results of August's voting will be out tomorrow. I wanted to keep it open until Tuesday to give everyone a chance to vote - about 1,500 of you vanish every weekend, so I needed at least one work day in there...
And as some have noted, it looks like there's been a very well organized voting campaign put together on behalf of one of our contestants. The site keeps the funny business fairly well limited, however, so it wasn't "rigged" in the traditional sense. I try to limit everyone to one vote as well as I can.
Oh. And I'm WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind on e-mails. I'm gonna try to get caught up this week, so if you sent me something and haven't gotten a response, that's why...
Today's Slap comes courtesy of Don, who was kind enough to send along a couple of nice pictures for me to post, and I was able to round up some other scorchers out there...
Anyway, Marco Melandri is an Italian motorcycle racer. I used to own a crotch rocket and always hoped that the other riders I saw on the road looked like Marco. Sadly, when they took off their helmets it never quite worked out that way.
Today's Slap goes out to British tennis star Tim Henman. He played Roger Federer yesterday in the USOpen, and although I don't know the result for a fact, I can pretty well guess - regardless, if you don't want to know for sure, you might not want to read the comments.
Anyway, Tim's always been one of my sentimental favorites. I had high hopes for a couple of years that he could pull out a win on his home court at Wimbledon, but he never managed it. And sadly, I think his days on the tour are numbered - at 32, he's well over the hill. It takes an exceptional athlete to last to age 36 as Andre Agassi has.
Yeah, I'd love to massage his chest too - and other things. Just a good shag would be nice.

Tim has been one of my favorite tennis players. He represents the player of bygone years - refined, elegant, no tricks and powerhouse plays. Not to mention - he is very nice eye candy in a country club, preppy sort of a way. I have never seen shirtless pics of him, so I have had to fantasize about what was underneath those tennis whites that clung to his body when he worked up a sweat! I am defnitely not disappointed. Thanks Rob!

While your twink predelection never has any interest to me, this slap of Henman, one of the homeliest, yet nicest players on the tennis circuit, is an all-time low. Roddick does not redeem either, but watching Benjamin Becker, the dismantler of Andre Agassi today, would surely redeem if shirtless pics exist. There are so many studs on tour, yet to pick Tim, sorry.

Star Wars
For those of you who, like me, were ecstatic about the news that the original (un-Lucas-ized) versions of the Star Wars trilogy were going to be released in September, your time is here. Amazon will begin shipping on September 12, and you can pre-order now.
And yes, I realize the irony of calling the originals "un-Lucas-ized", since he was the guy that created them in the first place, but he's also the guy that fucked them up later. So now, among other things, you can see Han Solo shoot first; avoid seeing Jabba the Hutt's shameful appearance talking to Han before they leave for Alderaan; and you don't have to wince seeing storm troopers ride around on giant dinosaurs on Tattooine.
Update: Eric is right about the "orignial" versions of the Star Wars trilogy you can find on eBay and elsewhere. But the versions going on sale 9/12 are official Twentieth Century Fox release.
The new versions of the original trilogy, imho, are actually better. People dwell on the Han Solo/Greedo thing (and, after you have kids, with an awareness of how media influences children, you might well agree with his choice, cf. Steven Spielberg taking the guns out of "ET," but parenting gets short shrift from SW fans), but if you view the old and new versions side by side (and if you really are a SW geek, then you have), you see that the vast majority of 150-200 changes per film really had to do with recompositing shots to take out matte lines, correct lighting errors, realign misaligned overlayed elements, redoing some clunky stop-action elements in CG, and also add coherent transitions to new places. Or to insert visual elements that technology and money prevented before (e.g. exterior windows in Bespin corridors). The vast majority of the 800-1000 changes are subtle and most people don't even notice them. The Han Solo/Greedo plot point debate is a topic for another forum, as is the changing of the Ewok song at the end of RoTJ, etc., though I like the new ending much more, but from a filmic perspective the most of the tweaks are fairly restrained. I like the new versions better. (And I don't hate JarJar Binks any more, either; he grows on you after 20 viewings or so.) I'm just open-minded when it comes to George's tweaking of his *own* creations, and I have low tolerance for SW reactionaries who poodoo-poodoo the changes just because they are "different" and on not on the merits of cinematography or plot coherence over the whole saga. Vive la difference.

BestBuy will be selling them a set in a "collector's tin," with retro art on the cover. Note also the sequel to Lego Star Wars (the video game) comes out on the 12th too: the first one was a hoot and pretty darned fun, contraryto expectations, and the new game does the old trilogy (IV - V - VI).

Just so people know, the versions of Star Wars going on sale -- if I understand it correctly -- are buying the versions from the original Laserdisc versions. They will not have up-to-date sound or have the crispest resolution. Make sure to check other sites for more info on this before buying.
August had an interesting variety of guys - from the ultra-twinky Justin Berfield and Chace Crawford, to the steamingly sexy Alex Barahona to an older hottie, Harrison Ford. And who can forget Channing Tatum? One of the hottest guys I've featured here; and I'm very partial to Brendan Fraser.
Well..it seems like the Michael Fenton Panaro fan club is out in full force. More power to them, but when you consider the competition, me thinks the results are skewed by active and organized campaigning from the club. But, then, the fan clubs for some of the other guys could do the same, so it's a level playing field. Panaro's commanding lead is indeed a tribute to the loyalty and dedication of his fans, so I hope their efforts will get Michael some acting gigs. Well done, Panaro fans!

Michael Fenton Panaro is a common actor/model wannabe. His look is predictable. He's certainly attractive, but let's vote for someone who stands out as uncommonly hot. There are several twinks and studs on this ballot who are far more slapworthy than Michael (yawn) Fenton (yawn) Panaro.

Woo... tough call this month. Lots of hotties to choose from. May have to narrow it down to who gives the best b/j. I'll let you know when my research is complete.
I wish. Of course.
I wouldn't consider myself a Mike Panaro "hater". But there's no way in hell he's won this poll legit. So it's kind of a sad win for whomever did the lobbying/fixing. I mean c'mon... Alex Barahona... Andrew Stetson.. Channing Tatum... doesn't take a rocket scientist to see somethin' ain't right with this poll.

Awwww....come on guys. It's not that the winner wins a million dollars or a modeling or showbiz contract. It is just a website poll. As I said in my previous post, if Panaro's commanding lead is due to active lobbying by his fans, it bears testament to the ardor and devotion of his fans. It is an equal playing field, so the fans of other guys could also launch campaigns if they wanted to. Should Rob prevent this kind of lobbying from occuring? Well, it's his website, so it is for him to decide or to open it up for discussion. I personally don't think Panaro deserves to be the slap of the month as well, but I don't have the time or the energy to launch a campaign for my favorite. So, if he doesn't win, so be it. Life goes on.
I Slapped his co-star yesterday, so I thought it only fair to Slap Roswell actor Brendan Fehr today. hat12 said, in the comments, that he liked Brendan better than Jason Behr, but I don't know - I've gotta give the edge to Jason, myself.
Unfortunately, they won't get to go head-to-head in Slap of the Month voting, since August has already wrapped. But if they both make it to Slap of the Year, they can compete then. Of course, it's probably more likely that the Pope will call and ask me to be a cardinal, but who knows?
I think the caps of Brendan in bed with another guy are from Sugar -- at least the graphic on IMDB makes me think so. It sounds like hat12 liked the movie - maybe he can tell us more?
he's really cute with the long hair, but i prefer Jason.

Thanks Rob. This is one Fehr I do like. :)
I agree with Mark. The movie is one of those movies that tries to be dark just for the sake of it. Not a great film.
BUT, Brendan is very hot in it and it's nice to see him gay it up!
And I do think Brendan looks better with shorter hair, for what it's worth.

2011-05-09 21:51
Frehr was the "bad-boy" of the Roswell leads, the rebellious, irresponsible one who learns to express his vulnerability and to make real connections as time goes on. Both Behr and Frehr were easy on the eyes, but it's hard to make a direct comparison since their body types are so different. Behr is lean and compact, Frehr is big-boned and soft-edged. I wouldn't kick either out of bed!
"Sugar" was yet another in the seemingly endless genre of gay teen hustler movies, that covers no new ground. In "Sugar," a sweet young thing from the 'burbs comes out, leaves home and hooks up with an older, wiser hustler with a serious drug addiction. It ends badly for Frehr's character, but our young homo hero learns a valuable life lesson and moves on to a well-adjusted life. Has there ever been a gay teen hustler movie where the hustler turns out okay or at least finds love or redemption?
Am I the only queer film fan who's sick and tired of gay films that end in murder, suicide or misery? Why aren't queer directors creating more life-affirming films?
mark

2011-05-09 21:51
The comment about hustler movies is exactly right. In "sugar," the best thing is Brendan servicing a HUGE woman with enthusiasm and generosity.
He is a good actor.
I've seen dozens of hustler films, most are too weird and dramatic. "Mysterious Skin" is quite good. Why was there never a film of "City of Night" or Rechy's "Numbers"?

Weird e-mail
You know, I'm still hoping for some good hail, fire and brimstone, but this one will have to do for now. This one just baffles me because it was apparently entered on the site - NOT sent as spam or any other thing:
I bought a pair of your sandals at the Daytona flea market and it seems at sthough the stickiness has come off on some parts of it after wearing them only once. I tried to wash them figuring that might help but it did not. I wrote to info@toplessandal.com and said it could not be delievered no longer valid email. Thanks
Weird. Maybe she thought she was e-mailing an advertiser? And she didn't even put in her e-mail address.
Update: Well, being something of a language geek myself - although I'm sure it's not always obvious on this page - I have to respond to RSL.
Just out of curiosity, I Googled hail, fire and brimstone versus hellfire and brimstone, and found that the "hellfire" version is much more common (73,000 hits to 1,000). Going to the source, however, the original seems to be from Ezekiel 38:22 where it's referred to as "hailstones, fire, and brimstone". None of the English translations refer to it as "hellfire", but one translation, called "The Message" really gets itself into a lather:
I'll deluge Gog with judgment: disease and massacre, torrential rain and hail, volcanic lava pouring down on you and your mobs of troops and people.
And I didn't check all of them, but none of the versions of the bible I did check referred to "hellfire" anywhere in their text.
I couldn't find any obvious source for the term "hellfire". so I'm going to have to make the determination that it is, in fact, "hellfire" that's the eggcorn.
I know, I know - just what everyone wants to see on here: A discussion of the biblical origins of English phrases.
