While I'm at it, I'm going to stick with the tennis theme. Today's slap is Marat Safin - Jonathan's favorite player by far. I personally like Andy Roddick, but Marat has a certain appeal to him. I especially like his current shaggy look - which no doubt earns John's approval too. And, as always with tennis players, I recommend a visit to Marat's FotoGordon page.

I apologize to all of you who've sent me e-mail and are still waiting for a response. I've been traveling at the beach for the past week and haven't been able to respond like I normally do. I've been lucky enough to have a Wi-Fi connection available here at the house, but it's hard to discipline myself to respond to e-mail when I can be on the beach taking pictures of hotties. Today's slap is The O.C. hottie Ben McKenzie, who plays Ryan with that perfect 25-year-old-playing-18-year-old teen-ish angst. I saw him as an incompetent something-or-other in a rerun of a JAG episode recently. He actually hasn't been in much else. Surprising, because bad actor or not he's SMOKING HOT.
Oh. And somehow Chris Evans seems to have gotten even hotter since Cellular. Who's gonna be able to pay attention to the plot of Fantastic Four with him looking like that? And it seems we get to see a fair amount of skin - not as much as we should, of course. But the producers seem to realize that he's not popular because he's a good actor.

I saw Revenge of the Sith today. Unfortunately, my dad was along for the ride, so I couldn't gush properly. I mean, who knew Darth Vader was such a smoking hottie??? Holy cow! The Force really tones your abs, I guess.
Today's slap is Jesus himself, Jim Caviezel. I've always thought Jim was wicked cute, but the nonsense I heard from him around the time of The Passion of the Christ was, to say the least, creepy. Nevertheless, he's worth a slap anyway - really, kind of a 1/2 good slap, 1/2 bad slap thing.
Unfortunately, for the bondage fans out there, I wasn't able to track down any pics of him on the cross or getting whipped. I'm sure they're out there... Anyway.

I consider myself to be, very firmly, a libertarian. I'm going soft in a couple areas, it seems - specifically, I wouldn't object to any kind of smoking ban that a legislature passed - but, overall my libertarian principles seem only to get stronger over the years.
The current Republican control of the White House and Congress only confirms these beliefs for me. They pay lip service to "smaller government", but where is the action? The federal government has grown more under George Bush than it has in many years. GayPatriot has a look at their "failure to follow the Gipper's vision of federalism"; he also points to David's book.
John alerted me to the need for another slap of perennial hottie James Marsden - it's been since November and James needs to get slapped to be a part of the Slap of the Month cycle. I know faithful reader Jonathan will support this slap wholeheartedly, but may be devastated to learn that James smooches another guy in his upcoming movie Heights. Yes, apparently James (as reported to John by Kyle) plays some tonsil hockey with Jesse Bradford (who should be the subject of his own slap). American I Don't
I thought my lack of interest in this year's American Idol was mostly due to my dislike of Scott Savol. It turns out, however, that he was keeping me interested. Without him to root against, I just don't care any more. The remaining contestants are simply boring. This season may have ruined the show for me.
Yeah, I'd hit it. Something about power. And he's way hotter than Clinton or Bush, for sure!

DVDVerdict has an excellent review of the recently-released first season of every gay man's favorite 80's prime time soap, Dynasty. Apparently the producers decided to stick with the theme of the show:
It comes in a gaudy, glittery diamond slipcase cover that slides off to reveal a case holding two Amray shells with photos of the leads.
Make sure this is the one you want, however -- if you're looking for Joan Collins, playing the role of Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan, she doesn't appear until the second season.
Some time before, I needed to buy a good car for my business but I did not earn enough money and could not purchase something. Thank heaven my dude proposed to try to get the home loans at creditors. Hence, I did so and was satisfied with my short term loan.
Today's slap is Paul Rudd, star of such flicks as Clueless and, of course, The Object of My Affection. I figured someone with a little fur was in order after yesterday's undiluted twinkishness.

News today that the Castro District is getting free Wi-Fi. At least a private company is providing the service, although I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it was to prove their capabilities to the city of San Francisco so they can land a city-wide contract.
All the latest buzz on the gaming console front is about the XBox 360. It's reported to include, among other things, wireless controllers, 512 MB of RAM, "Wi-Fi ready" networking, 3 USB ports, 3 CPU cores at 3.2 Ghz each (and each with its own vector processing engine), and HD (or near HD) video quality.
Much of this information was leaked, presumably without Microsoft's consent, over the weekend, although since they plan a larger information rollout on MTV later this week, this may very well be a planned leak.
Regardless, if these kinds of specs are even close to accurate, it's hard to see how the other manufacturers are going to compete. I am by no means an expert, but I've never heard statistics like these bandied about for anything but the latest fire-breathing machine from Alienware. I guess the other consoles have a user base that MS can't touch yet, but with this much power all of the others look obsolete. Of course, I haven't seen anything about projected costs on XBox 360 yet.
If it's in the same price range as other consoles, however, I may just pick one up for myself. Of course then I'll need an HDTV. And a new TiVo. And new DirecTV service. Hmmm. This is getting expensive.

John definitely knows how to push my buttons, having pushed (nearly) all of them at some point. Today's button concerns the Real ID legislation making its way through Congress the Republican Convention in Washington.
The funny thing about this particular story is that I'm not nearly as upset as I know John expected me to be. Don't get me wrong, I don't support the idea at all, but these days the story just gets a "ho hum" from me. Perhaps it's the fact that legislation like this is a fait accompli given the current climate in Washington - I knew it was coming; I might as well get worked up about the tides. On the other hand it could be that we're nearly there already with the "No ID, no flight" restrictions placed on airline passengers these days. Or it could just be that I'm going soft in my dotage.
All I can really say about it is that I'm thankful the Republicans support smaller government. Ugh.
I won't say this is the silliest judicial reasoning I've ever heard, but it's gotta be close. A judge in Maryland has issued a restraining order blocking a county school system from instituting a health curriculum that includes discussions of homosexuality.
According to U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams
the curriculum juxtaposes faiths such as Quakers that support full rights for gays and lesbians with groups such as Baptists, who are painted as "intolerant and Biblically misguided."
Does this mean, according to Judge Williams, that The Shakers have a cause of action against any sexual education in schools? After all, that's favoring Baptists over those nasty, intolerant Shakers.

Things you can learn on the radio
I listened to Derek And Romaine on Sirius Radio (channel 149 - OutQ) for the first time today. For some reason I had visited Derek's website a bunch of times, but had never noticed that - d'oh! - it's available in an audio stream. Yes, I'm that smart. I wish I had an actual Sirius radio, but my car came with XM - oh well.
So anyway, D&R were having a disturbing fascinating and enlightening segment about sounding. You'll notice in that Urban Dictionary link to "sounding" this example of the word in a sentence:
Bob had sounded himself so much his girlfriend could shove a tampax IN his cock.
And you thought a kitting needle was bad.
UPDATE: Derek's (and Romaine's) show is really good. And god, they'll talk about ANYTHING! The sounding was fairly tame, actually. Why we need divided government
John forwarded me a disturbing policy analysis from the CATO Institute (my favorite libertarian think tank) about Bush, the Republicans and their profligate spending habits. This is why I voted for John Kerry. This is why, despite my frustration with many of his policies (among other things), I - in hindsight - miss Bill Clinton. I never thought I'd say that, but the fighting that Bill did with the Republicans in Congress kept everyone occupied in ways other than spending us into oblivion.
With my favorite contestant, Constantine, gone, I'm not terribly interested in who wins any more. Nevertheless:
* Anthony: Continues to make poor song choices. I guess he got one right tonight, however, so maybe he'll improve. His first performance was dreadful, his second didn't blow me away, but better than the 1st.
* Wife beater: I can't say how much his continued presence on this show upsets me. And what's with the cross around his neck? Is that new this week? God, I can't even comment on his performance, I'm just so overwhelmed by his offensive appearance and act. He said before his 2nd performance that he has a "fashion coordinator" to dress him and make him "more appealing to people". I just have to ask: Could he be LESS appealing?
* Vonzell: I thought her performaces were the best of the night. She's starting to "feel" what she's singing and make the audience enjoy it, and her vocals have been consistently strong. With Constantine gone, Vonzell may have the inside track on the competition this year.
* Bo: I just didn't find either of his performances very interesting. And that's sad, because he's one of the best pure performers on the show this year. UGH. Maybe he's better than I'm giving him credit for - he's just too much "White Snake" for my tastes.
* Carrie: Two very good vocal performances. Once again, however, she's just not invested enough in her performances. Her vocals have always been good, but I'm just not interested in watching her.
After virtually every episode of the show this year, I've gone back and watched one of last year's shows. The difference is incredible.

Bandwidth thieves
One of the lowest forms of life on the web, as I'm sure Bill at Tottyland will agree, is a bandwidth thief. I don't have detailed statistics on how bad it is here, but I decided to stop it anyway. So from now on, deep links to pictures on here won't work. I certainly don't mind if you copy the pictures (I'd love a credit if you're so inclined) - and ImageShack is a great place to host your own images for free. So, if you've deeplinked, it's time to fix your links.
Yup - it really was a tie. No foolin'. So I chickened out and declared both guys winners. We actually had a 3-way tie (Ryan Reynolds was in there too) until Gemini6ice cast a non-tie-breaking tie-breaking vote. So I reduced it from 3 to 2. I could have counted my husband's vote and declared Jeremy the winner, but it wouldn't have been for his looks, so it didn't seem fair - I know my husband would rather eat broken glass than sleep with any of them. And hell, who could really decide between these two anyway?
Today's slap is Rafael's very fetching brother, Alexandre Verga - as suggested by Rico, in his comments about Rafael. Also a model, Alexandre has appeared in Abercrombie & Fitch, Guess and other catalogs - and Bruce Weber seems to like him. Gee, I wonder why?
